We had to wait a very long time for our food to arrive. My cheesburger was cold, the fries were cold and the burger bread was soggy. My wife's hot dog was cold and the fries were also cold. My son's grilled cheese sandwich was cold, the cheese was not the least bit warm and these fries were cold as well. We tried to eat some of the food but it was so bad none of us managed more than a couple of bites.
We couldn't find our waitress and had to go find someone to complain to. When the manager came to us, we told her what the problem was and she said that there was a very big dinner party that came in at the same time and that they were really slammed and that's why the food was cold. I said that I understood, but that that explanation didn't make it right that we got cold food. She instantly became defensive and said that the meal was no charge to us and stormed off without another word--let alone any kind of apology. We sat there another minute or so wondering if we were just to get up and leave or wait, so I went and found the nearest employee and asked for the name of the owner. He said he was there, and said he'd tell him to come see us at our table.
The owner came out and after listening to what had happened to us, he acted just as defensive as the manager did making excuses for why our meal was not good. He said, they were really busy, that he was always in the back and had to cook all the food and didn't have time to run the entire restaurant himself, and how he works such long hours. My wife and I just looked at each other and laughed at how bad this was getting so we got out of there as soon as we could. We left Leo's hungry and stopped at the nearest fast food restaurant down the street, which ironically gave us much better food and customer service.
There are multiple lessons to be learned here for any business owners who care about customer service. If it was simply cold food or having to wait too long, that's one thing that's very forgivable. However, this was a very BAD experience made worse with our attempt to tell management. In my experience, any business where both manager and owner make excuses is a business that will not be open for long. If the owner is okay with making excuses, is okay with ticked off customers and is okay with poor management representation, then something's seriously wrong here. My family left Leo's cafe without a meal, we left without a sincere apology and we left without any possibility of ever returning. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
