Description: Kokopelli is a fertility deity, usually depicted as a humpbacked flute player, who has been venerated by some Native American cultures in the Southwestern United States. Like most fertility deities, Kokopelli presides over both childbirth and agriculture. He is also a trickster god and represents the spirit of music. Founders of Kokopelli Winery and Bistro, Don and Carol Minchella retired to the Arizona area from Michigan; they purchased land in Wilcox, Arizona to pursue a lifelong dream of owning a vineyard and producing wine. The first vine was planted in the late 1980's with production of their 1st bottle of wine taking place in 1991. In keeping with Southwest tradition, Don and Carol named the winery, Kokopelli. The history behind the Kokopelli suited the whimsy and grass roots approach they desired; while making it a recognizable Southwest product.

The first bistro opened in 2001, offering wine tastings, panini sandwiches, homemade soups and the signature Nosh platter, a perfect complement to Kokopelli wines. A small production facility was also added at the Chandler location, In 2003, Don and Carol's son, Dennis and daughter-in-law, Melissa, purchased Kokopelli Winery and the Bistro in Chandler, with a desire to continue the tradition of great wine and food. Dennis began offering a dinner menu with live jazz music and Kokopelli continued to be a place for people to gather and enjoy themselves.
