Glacier's not the only place in Anchorage that blares oldies at top-volume, but it's still worth a trip. Take earplugs if you're dining alone. This is a noisy place even without the music, because it's always hopping. The service is pretty amazing considering the crowds, and the food is mostly very good. I wish the menu had a few more items, especially in the appetizer section (there's just 3) and the sandwich section. Only 2 pastas are available, but they're both stand-outs: the spicy creamy jambalaya fettucine and a velvety mushroom rigatoni are the only choices. The rotisserie chicken is served up with spicy mashed potatoes and sadly unimaginative but beautifully prepared seasonal vegetables, the french dip sandwich with fries is truly delicious and the ribs are tasty but incredibly messy. The seafood chowder was a bit disappointing, more of a potato chowder with flecks of salmon than what I expected to be a chowder brimming with all the good seafood Alaska has to offer. The spent-grain bread just doesn't quite do it, especially when compared with Simon and Seafort's heavenly sourdough, but I guess you can't have everything. Go early, and expect to wait.
