Friends of ours had a friend in from LA and he was WOW'd! Our only dissappointment was they had run out of cheese grits! Most of us ordered 3 sides because we couldn't decide on just 2. The pork tenderloin is my favorite but this night I went for the rock fish and it was wonderful. This was probably my 5th or 6th visit and I have never been let down.
I went to Comfort as recommended by the hotel concierge from my hotel. I wasn't expecting much largely because it took me a while to find the place. I am from California and not familiar with the area and the name on the outside had no lights and the lights inside were a bit dim so the place looked closed. But when I did go in, the place had several people dining. I sat at the bar because I was there alone on travel (negative) but the bar tender made me feel as if I was home (Jermaine).
He recommended the pork tenderloin and I had two sides, the green beans and the scalloped potatoes. I then saw that they had fried green tomatoes on the menu as well, so being as I had never tried them and heard a lot of fanfare, I ordered them as an appetizer.
The food was delicious-- the tenderloin was almost the entire tenderloin, the green beans were not too overcooked and still had a little crunch to them. I must say that althought the scalloped potatoed were good, I felt the were a bit undercooked.
As for the fried green tomatoes, I did enjoy them. They had a suprising flavor and went well with the beer I was drinking. They had two different hot sauces and a spicy-mayo dip. I preferred the hot sauces.
As the night progressed the people that had been eating meandered to the bar and stayed.
I must say due to the staff and ambieance of the I decided to go back the following nights I was there.
I had the tuna, which I asked to be pan-seared, with greean bean (again, yes) and raosted beets (I personally did not like them, different flavors which I am not accustomed too but I can see their local appeal) the next night. One thing about the beets that I did like though was that they hay a yogurt-type dollop on top of them which did make them more delectible.
The final night I had the quail, which was I belive oven roasted with a strawberry topping on it with fried okra and mashed potatoes. The quail was a little too comlicated for me because it was so small and bony. I must admit, I went ahead and used my hands while eating which made it even more fun to eat. I also had the Surrey sausage to begin the night.
Greg and Jared were my bar tenders (respectively) on the following nights and they were great people and staff. They knew there beers and made my stay and visits memorable.
Visit this place!!! Talk with the staff, ask for their input, they know their foods, drinks and complementations!!!
Cheers!
