I will start this review stating that my father is a chef and owned and operated a successful restaurant in New York. He moved to Columbia, and was also a popular, successful chef here as well (Chef Wayne). I must say, about a year ago I ate at Catch 22 in Irmo, SC. I wasn't overly impressed, or dissatisfied either. However, the place has undergone a management change recently, and the food quality is OUTSTANDING! It is simply put, the BEST meal I have ever had in my 18 years in Columbia. Both my wife and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary there- and we both ordered off of the blackboard specials (DO NOT miss these specials above you when you enter the restaurant). I had a Sea Bass that was cooked to perfection covered with a creamy shrimp/crab sauce. My wife had an 8oz tenderloin (which was more like a 10oz cut) covered with shrimp scampi - but it was NOT like the usual scampi yoou get, all buttery and fatty and thinned out; the shrimp had there own unique garlic flavor to compliment the portabello mushroom and roasted red pepper flavor of the steak. Also, the turtle cheesecake could very well be the BEST piece of cheesecake I have EVER had, even from New York. If all the meals stay up to this caliber, it is quite simple... I have not had a meal this good at ANY restaurant in Columbia, regardless of price or so-called "repuatation".
