Casa Alvarez is definitely not one of Boulder's best mexican restaurants. On a recent visit (the last of many) I was continued to be disappointed by their poor menu selection. It also upsets me that a refill of chips & salsa costs $2.00, which is free at other restaurants (since you are typically waiting on their kitchen staff to prepare your meal quickly). Once my chicken enchiladas arrived, I was disappointed that they were not 100% white meat, but instead contained a significant amount of dark meat in them. They were also undercooked, and they arrived fairly cold.
The service was also horrible. Our hostess was incredibly rude, just walking us to our table, placing the menus down in a pile and leaving. Our waitress was not much better, and was very unattentive. The only drink refill I received was when I requested it, as she never came past to check on how the meal was. Of course, when she did refill my water she ended up spilling from the pitcher on the table.
Overall, I was not impressed by this restaurant. From my experience, there are plenty of other good restaurants in Boulder if you are in search of mexican food.
