Ambrosia Restaurant is a "Culinary Experience"! Executive Chef Michael Rossi's food is exquisite and leaves no taste bud unattended to! We really enjoyed the Shrimp Scampi prepared tableside by "Mr. Everything" Philippe Antoine, and the best Lamb Chops I have ever tasted!
What a treat! Do yourself a favor....get over to Ambrosia quick...because soon there won't be an empty table in the building!
The dining room is very nicely appointed, and the seating-- mostly banquettes, is great. We really enjoyed the band's standards, and that they were not so loud as to prevent quiet conversation at our table.
Service was very good. Our only issue was with the food. The menu is limited and in some ways odd (for example, the only beef on the menu was a filet priced at $44). They had a lot of fish on the menu, although they were out of one of those menu items. Pricing is erratic. They have a number of items (chicken, fish) priced at $18-$20 then the menu jumps to the filet and a rack of lamb at $44 or $45.
We had the shrimp appetizer and a plated salad (we didn't choose a tableside Cesar). The shrimp were tasty, but the dish was just shrimp-- no sauce, no relish. It seemed like it should be a well-prepared ingredient rather than a freestanding dish. The salad was well-prepared with a nice light dressing, but a very small portion for the price.
Our entrees were both fish, one salmon and one halibut. In both cases simply prepared and presented, and adequate flavor. The mashed potatoes were tasty. We finished with a tableside bananas foster that was excellent.
So it's an interesting place in a part of town that could use more interesting places, and is very nice environment. But the menu and execution shows little imagination. We enjoyed our overall experience, but not because of the food itself. In fact, it might be that the waiters make better food than the kitchen. We would probably want to know that the food quality improved before we return.
Tuxedo dressed waiters. Excellent ambiance (live jazz). Excellent service. Great Food. Not cheap but worth it. We spent about 120 per person. In my opinon worth every penny. We had had the Filet and the Lobster. Both were very good. The waiter was extremely knowledgable and professional. I will definitely be back. I recommend this to anyone who wants to impress a guest.
We had a business lunch with investors new to Santa Ana. Walking into the Ambrosia was like walking back in time with old world charm and class. Service was inpecible, black tie servers that were exteremly polite. I ordered the sea bass....the BEST, light and flakey with a hint of asian spice. When they say "return to culinary decadence" they are right. Ambrosia is my new spot to entertain guest and business associates.
